So I'm all packed. My backpack weighs in at only 15kgs. Fuck yes! After long deliberation, I have decided to ditch my Canon DSLR & 10-20mm wide-angle lens. I have come to the conclusion that it is far too heavy @ 2kgs & too bulky for a trekker's pack. Plus, it's one more thing I'd have to protect from thieves n shit. It's a shame I suppose, cause there's going to be a lot of opportunities to get awesome photographs; but whatever. My Sony HX5V will do the job nicely. It has GPS tagging, Sweep Panorama mode & a pretty good 25mm lens; also very light and compact. I've also left out my Lonely Planet Guide to Europe on a shoestring, as it weighs 1kg and is also quite bulky. However, I have arranged for it to be brought over to the UK with my Mother, whom I'll be meeting up with in April at the beginning of my EU leg of the tour.

After leaving these things out, I made the decision to pack a couple of luxury items, such as; a full size towel, a single flat bed sheet & a pillow case. I figured that these items will be things that will bring comfort to me, as I lie in cheap, shagged out hostel bunks & trek through the Andes, soaked to bone in the final months of the wet season. This may well become the best decision I will make about what to pack and what to eliminate. I suppose only time will tell.
There's only 2 days left now till my departure & the boredom spoken about in my previous post is completely gone... all that remains is a fierce nervousness, deep in the pit of my gut; the excitement.
Kym's buck's night was an awesome journey into the heart of the bromantic dream. It was an eventful trip; one I'll remember forever & a great way to lead in to my departure. The final leg of the wait, is tomorrow's (15th Feb 2011) wedding. Kym & Amy Kennedy to be. Then the flight to LA & into the void of travel. The days I so long for, the experiences I am yearning.
